Acupuncture services are provided by Ryan Smith

govignon_100205_86-Edit-1Ryan Smith is a graduate of the Tri-State College of Acupuncture (TSCA), where he earned a Clinical Masters of Science in Acupuncture. As an intern in TSCA’s high volume clinic, he treated a diverse patient population for conditions such as peripheral neuropathy, IBS, Mentrual dysfunction, allergies, pain management, sleep disorders, stress and fatigue, to name a few. It was during his clinical training that Ryan became particularly interested in treating the signs and symptoms associated with cancer treatments and HIV medications.

Ryan is trained in three styles of Acupuncture: Acupuncture Physical Medicine (APM), Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), and Kiiko Matsumoto Style Japanese Acupuncture (KM). He uses Japanese Acupuncture at the forefront of his practice. Ryan was taught directly by Master Practitioners, including Mark Seem and Kiiko Matsumoto. Ryan’s versatility in diagnostic and treatment methods gives him many viable options to choose from.

Ryan has interned with Emilie Connor, PT MS L.A.c., who is the director of the Japanese Acupuncture Department at TSCA and founder of the Thousand Hands Institute. He has received certificates in Oncology Acupuncture from memorial Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City in Contemporary Pulse Diagnosis in the tradition of Leon Hammer. He is a trained Mei Zen cosmetic acupuncture clinician.

In addition to his practice, Ryan serves on TSCA’s Clinical Teaching Staff, where he enjoys educating future acupuncturists.

TRAINING

Trigger Point Dry Needling developed by Dr. Mark Seem in Acupuncture Physical Medicine (APM). Trigger points are often the prime source of myofascial pain and discomfort. APM style of acupuncture is adapted from the works of Dr. Janet Travell, M.D. on western myofascial trigger point release.

Advanced Japanese Acupuncture techniques developed by Kiiko Matsumoto (KM). Designed to provide instant feedback, KM uses a highly evolved method of palpation of the body for effective diagnosis and treatment. KM embraces the advances in modern medicine and is the only acupuncture approach currently taught at Harvard Medical School.
